Last season, the Kansas City Chiefs lost cornerback Jaylen Watson early in the year due to a broken tibia and fibula. Once Watson went down, the Chiefs' quality of cornerback play took a drastic hit. As a result, Kansas City knew it must address this issue during the 2025 offseason.
This process began with signing former Los Angeles Charger cornerback Kristian Fulton to a two-year deal worth $20 million at the start of free agency. Following that move, many fans questioned if the Chiefs would target another cornerback in the draft.
Over this past weekend, fans got their answer to that question when Kansas City selected University of California CB Nohl Williams. Drafting Williams fortifies the Chiefs' cornerback room even more while increasing the level of competition for the players who struggled last season.
On Monday night, Watson shared his excitement for Kansas City's new cornerback room in a post on X. The 26-year-old tweeted, " Anybody else loving how the CB room looking".

Jaylen Watson is Hyped About Kansas City's Revamped CB Room
While Watson's comments do reflect what some Chiefs fans are feeling about the revamped cornerback room, he shouldn't get too ahead of himself. After returning from injury during the playoffs, Watson didn't put together great performances.
According to PFF, the 26-year-old finished his playoff run with a 64.8 grade in run defense, a 60.5 grade in pass coverage, a 56.4 grade in tackling, and a 62.2 overall grade. Though his struggles are understandable, given the injury he was coming off of, they are still unexpected during the playoffs.
Thus, drafting Williams may have been as much about challenging the backups as it is about challenging Watson. That said, Watson is still a likely starter in 2025, but that doesn't mean he shouldn't be looking over his shoulder.
Even so, Watson and Chiefs Kingdom should be excited about the cornerback room heading into 2025.
