Throughout training camp this summer, one of the more interesting position battles that Kansas City Chiefs fans have been paying attention to is at wide receiver.
While we know the top of the wide receiver room depth chart is set with Xavier Worthy, Rashee Rice, Hollywood Brown, JuJu Smith-Schuster, and rookie Jalen Royals. There’s a question about who will be the sixth and potentially seventh receivers on the 53-man roster.
The Chiefs have several potential candidates for those last two spots in the WR room, including former second-round pick Skyy Moore. Moore has had a disappointing start to his NFL career and has been viewed as a cut candidate for some time now.
Anytime you draft a player within the first two rounds, you want to give them every opportunity to make the 53-man roster. However, it won’t be easy as Moore is going up against Nikko Remigio, Tyquan Thornton, Jason Brownlee, etc.
Nonetheless, the former Day 2 pick has the support of one coach on the staff, which could loom large with cutdown day in the coming days.
Chiefs STC Dave Toub on Skyy Moore: "His punt return and kick return ability has gotten better over the years. . .The other part is the mental thing with him. He's definitely an NFL player, whether he's on our team or not. He's a good football player."

Chiefs STC Dave Toub Gives Vote of Confidence to Skyy Moore
According to Charles Goldman of AtoZ Sports, Kansas City special teams coordinator Dave Toub believes Moore is an NFL player and that he has shown improvement in the return game.
"His punt return and kick return ability has gotten better over the years. . .The other part is the mental thing with him. He's definitely an NFL player, whether he's on our team or not. He's a good football player."
The former Western Michigan wide receiver is coming off a rough offensive game in the Chiefs’ recent preseason game against the Seattle Seahawks.
Moore had two ugly drops, including one that hit him right in the hands that he could’ve turned up the field for at least a first down. However, the 24-year-old wide receiver had an electrifying 88-yard punt return for a touchdown late in the fourth quarter.

He didn’t have much room to operate on the sideline, but was able to find a little bit of daylight and took it the distance. Moore also got some special teams reps in the opener, recording a 27-yard kick return and six yards on a punt return.
If he’s going to make the 53-man roster, Moore will need to have one more moment on special teams in the preseason finale against the Chicago Bears. It will be interesting to see how things shake out in the coming week, as the Chiefs will have to make a tough decision.
