Chiefs Brutally Disrespected in New Super Bowl Odds After Raiders Win
The Kansas City Chiefs sit atop the AFC with an 11-1 record. Despite only having one loss on the season, the Chiefs don't have many dominant victories. Most of their wins this season have been by six points or less.
One would think that the Chiefs showing they can win close games would factor heavily into their Super Bowl odds. Unfortunately, that does not seem to be the case. According to FanDuel Sportsbook, the current Super Bowl odds are Lions (+250), Eagles (+500), Bills (+500) and the Chiefs (+550). The Chiefs having the fourth shortest odds is crazy after they have won back-to-back Super Bowls.
NFL News: Chiefs Somehow Only Have the Fourth-Best Super Bowl Odds
These four teams having the shortest odds to make the Super Bowl make sense. However, the order they are in does not.
The Lions certainly deserve to have the shortest odds with how dominant they've been this season. Not only are they currently on a ten-game winning streak, but during that span, they have dominated teams. Detroit has scored 45+ points in three games this season, with two of them being 52-point games.
The Eagles being tied for the second shortest odds to make the Super Bowl makes sense. Philadelphia is the second-best team in the NFC and is currently on an eight-game win streak. While they haven't dominated teams like the Lions, they have still taken care of business pretty handily.
In Week 13, the Eagles shut down what had been a dominant Baltimore Ravens offense en route to a victory. While the game ended 24-19, the Ravens scored a garbage time touchdown to make it look closer than it really was.
The issue with these odds is that the Buffalo Bills have slightly shorter odds than the Chiefs. While the Bills defeated the Chiefs in Week 11, they have never won against Patrick Mahomes in the playoffs.
With that likely being the hurdle the Bills have to get over to make the Super Bowl, giving them shorter odds than the Chiefs makes little sense.
Although the Chiefs have struggled at times this season, they still only have one loss, so they should be the favorites to make the Super Bowl in the AFC over the Bills. If you go by past precedence, Mahomes and the Chiefs just switch into a different gear in the playoffs.
