There is no denying that Kansas City Chiefs fans enjoyed watching the Buffalo Bills' playoff exit. While there is a regular-season rivalry between the two teams, the Chiefs have dominated Buffalo when the games truly matter, and K.C. fans will always take an opportunity to relish the feeling when things go wrong for the AFC rival squad.

That includes on Wednesday, when Bills owner Terry Pegula took a shot at wideout Keon Coleman. According to ESPN's Alaina Getzenberg, Pegula "said Coleman wasn't at the top of (Brandon) Beane's list and that he was being a team player with the pick."

Never has it been clearer that a player has fallen out with a franchise than watching a general manager/president and owner both willingly throw you under the bus. It would be shocking if Coleman isn't traded at some point in the 2026 offseason, especially after head coach Sean McDermott was fired. Even then, under the coach that reportedly championed him, Coleman was still a healthy scratch multiple times this season.

Still, if the Bills are going to make Coleman available for a trade this offseason, there's no question about it: Chiefs GM Brett Veach needs to pick up the phone and give Beane a call.

Keon Coleman-Chiefs Trade Makes Too Much Sense Amid Bills Drama

This leads us to a potential opportunity for the Chiefs, who only have Jalen Royals, Rashee Rice, and Xavier Worthy rostered at the receiver position for the 2026 season. While Coleman is under contract for two more seasons, it seems that he could be added for next to nothing if the Bills truly don't think highly of him. This is the perfect chance not only to hurt a rival but to bring in a once-promising prospect at an incredibly low cost.

What makes this situation all the more entertaining is that the Chiefs traded with the Bills to land the draft pick that selected Worthy. Buffalo would trade back one more slot before selecting Coleman, a mistake the franchise can't help but play over and over, wondering what could've been if they had selected the more talented speedster. With Josh Allen's ability to hit the deep ball, it is painful for Bills fans to imagine what they should've had if not for a clear draft mistake.

In two seasons with the Bills, Coleman has hauled in 67-of-116 targets (57.8%) for 960 receiving yards (14.3 yards per catch) and eight touchdowns. His 2025 performance may have left much to be desired, but it's worth noting that he did have an eight-catch, 112-yard performance in Week 1, indicating that he might have untapped potential that Mahomes & Co. could unleash.

Fans have watched Mahomes elevate marginal talent over the past three seasons, and another hand would be helpful after Worthy and Rice took a step back this season.

If there is one quarterback that can breathe life back into Coleman's career and make the most of his talent, it is the league's best signal-caller — even if he's coming off a major injury. No question, it is a move the Chiefs should explore not only because of the fit, but because successfully developing Coleman into a legitimate threat would be another reason to laugh at the Bills' demise.
