Chiefs Get Big Update on Injured Offensive Lineman During Monday's Practice
The Kansas City Chiefs finish off their late-season gauntlet of three games in 11 days on Wednesday against the Steelers. Heading into the game against the Steelers, the Chiefs have a laundry list of injuries that got worse on Saturday in their win over the Texans. One player that was added to that list was right tackle Jawaan Taylor.
Taylor came out of the game Saturday due to a strained right knee. Fortunately, it seems Taylor could be on track to play Wednesday. According to Pete Sweeney, Taylor did practice in some capacity on Monday.
Chiefs News: Jawaan Taylor on Track to Play Wednesday
Morris filled in nicely for Taylor on Saturday against the Texans. According to PFF, in ten pass-blocking snaps, Morris did not allow a single sack, QB hurry, QB hit, or QB pressure. Although ten pass rush snaps aren't a lot, performing like that against Will Anderson, an ascending pass rusher, is definitely impressive.
Despite that, if Morris plays this week he would be facing T.J. Watt all day, who is a completely different animal than Anderson. So, Taylor trending in the right direction is certainly a good sign.
That's not to say Taylor will shut down Watt, but since he is a natural right tackle he might have a better chance at slowing him down. Even if Taylor, starts the Chiefs will certainly try and help block Watt play-to-play with chip blocks and double-teams.
Making sure Watt gets to Mahomes as few times as possible is the most important aspect for the Chiefs. If the offensive line fails to protect Mahomes against Watt it might potentially make his ankle sprain that he is playing through worse.
Keeping track of Taylor's health in the next 48 hours will be massively important.
