Chiefs Announce Anthem Singer for AFC Championship Game vs. Bills
By Jovan Alford
The No. 1 seed Kansas City Chiefs will welcome the No. 2 seed Buffalo Bills to GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium on Sunday night for the AFC Championship game.
This is a highly anticipated matchup between these two teams, who played each other earlier this season in Buffalo. The Bills defeated the Chiefs 30-21 in Week 11. Kansas City will want revenge as they try to make a third-straight trip to the Super Bowl.
With so much on the line, Arrowhead will be rocking before the game as fans want to see Kansas City go after history and cement themselves in NFL lore. Before the AFC title game kicks off at 6:30 p.m. ET/5:30 p.m. CT, fans will be in their seats for the pre-game festivities, which will have world-class entertainment.
According to Matt Derrick of ChiefsDigest.com, the Chiefs announced that retired United States Navy Petty Officer First Class Generald Wilson will perform the national anthem. Also, Kansas City Chiefs Chairman/CEO Clark Hunt will be the drum honoree for the title game.
Lastly, there will be a flyover done by the B-2 Spirit out of Whiteman Air Force Base located near Knob Noster, Missouri.
Chiefs Reveal National Anthem Singer and Drum Honoree vs. Bills
Wilson is a fan-favorite in Kansas City as he’s performed the national anthem more than once at the Chiefs. The retired Navy Officer took to Twitter/X earlier this week to express his excitement about singing at Sunday’s AFC title game.
According to the US Department of Veterans Affairs, the St. Louis County, Missouri native has sung ‘The Star Spangled Banner’ and “God Bless America” at nearly 1,000 events, which includes NFL playoff games, the World Series, the Stanley Cup Finals, and NCAA championships.
If having Wilson open the game wasn’t enough for Chiefs fans, Hunt will be the drum honoree before the game, which has become a tradition for the last five AFC title games at GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium.
The national anthem is scheduled to be sung at 5:35 p.m. CT. Therefore, fans should be in their seats as kickoff will be minutes later.
