If there is one possible critique of the Kansas City Chiefs' front office is the decision to continually let impact players in the secondary walk away. The Chiefs have a sense of belief that the draft and free agency can restock these positions at a lower rate while maintaining the bulk of their core. While it is hard to argue against this, considering the Chiefs have made three straight Super Bowls, it doesn't make the process of parting ways with players any easier.
The latest example of this was veteran Justin Reid cashing in on free agency to land with the New Orleans Saints. It was glaringly obvious this was a payday and nothing more. Reid is in a far worse position in what is expected to be one of the worst teams in football. However, it is hard to blame players for looking out for their future.
With all of this in mind, one of the biggest question marks for the Chiefs is the future of Trent McDuffie. If Kansas City is consistent with its recent history, it isn't wild to believe McDuffie could be traded or simply play out his current contract. Chiefs' fans bracing for this frustration can now take a sigh of relief with the star corner reassuring fans that the organization is already at work.

Chiefs Are Already at Work to Extend Star Corner Trent McDuffie
McDuffie announced that the Chiefs were already at work with the two sides currently engaged. This is great news with a club option remaining for the 2026 season. Kansas City has plenty of time to figure out how to best work the contract around its current core. For McDuffie, it sends a strong message that the organization is following the same path it has in recent history.
The Chiefs' defense hasn't suffered the consequences of parting ways with key pieces thanks to an elite drafting ability and finding the perfect signings. However, it is hard to see this continuing if McDuffie isn't locked up. This level of corner doesn't typically fall in a team's lap, no matter how savvy the front office might be.
All leaves reason to believe the Chiefs are making the perfect decision, and the dynasty is far from over. As long as Andy Reid continues to coach and the core can remain intact, the Chiefs should continue to be the prohibitive favorites as the front office continues to lock up key pieces.
