The Kansas City Chiefs just made a big statement in Week 6, as taking down the Detroit Lions proved that head coach Andy Reid & Co. can still hold their ground against Super Bowl contenders.
As great as the victory was, it doesn't mean general manager Brett Veach shouldn't be active in the trade market. If anything, the Chiefs need to make sure that they're giving quarterback Patrick Mahomes the supporting cast he needs. With that in mind, SNY TV's Connor Hughes' report on New York Jets running back Breece Hall's trade value should be music to Veach's ears.
Breece Hall's Trade Value is Great News For Chiefs
"Hall is a hot name on the NFL’s trade circuit," Hughes wrote on X. "Talked to a half dozen front office sources late last week for SNY TV pregame. Their consensus on his value: Fifth-round pick, potential for fourth if two teams compete for him."
Hall is one of the best running backs in the AFC and would add a new layer to Kansas City's offense. Then again, trading for him also comes with some risks, which is why some executives around the league believe the New York Jets won't be able to get much more from him:
"One GM when I asked about a third: 'Way, way too rich.' An AGM on why his value isn’t higher: Durability concerns, not consistent tough yardage, “rent a player.” Hall is (in the final year of his deal). Acquiring team then needs to pay him = drops value," Hughes continued.
Truth be told, that's a pretty reasonable asking price for a running back who's still in his prime. Through the first six weeks of the season, Hall has turned 88 carries into 410 rushing yards, adding 17 receptions on 24 targets for 150 receiving yards. He has yet to score a touchdown, but his team's negative game script hasn't done him any favors.
The Chiefs currently rank in the middle of the pack in rushing yards per game (118.7), and Patrick Mahomes is their leading rusher at 37.0 rushing yards per contest and 222 through the season. Neither Isiah Pacheco nor Kareem Hunt has been explosive or effective, and they're taking things slowly with rookie Brashard Smith.
The Chiefs will get wideout Rashee Rice back next week after he served his six-game suspension, and that should only open up more lanes for the offense. Still, adding a hard-hitting, tackle-breaking, crafty back like Hall might be just what they need to take their game to the next level, especially if his reported trade price proves to be true.
