Round 1, Pick 31 - Josh Conerly, Tackle, Oregon
Conerly is a guy who has been the opposite of a fan favorite for Chiefs fans this offseason. He and Grey Zabel have been the target of a lot of criticism when they show up in Chiefs mock drafts, so obviously... I decided to throw myself to the wolves.
Fans are always infatuated with adding flashy weapons early in the draft who can make big plays with the ball in their hands. But all offseason, I have been saying that the Chiefs need to take the boring route and build from the line of scrimmage.
Conerly is a former five-star recruit out of high school where he was the eighth-ranked high school football player in the nation in 2022. This season, Conerly only allowed one sack and nine pressures over almost 500 pass-blocking sets, showing exactly why he earned his five-star prestige in high school.
Conerly has been an anchor for the Oregon offensive line since the second he stepped on the field and has proven to be one of the best left tackles in the nation over the last two years. Conerly weighed in a little over 310 and is likely best suited to play tackle, but could move to guard if needed. I am not sold that the Chiefs have fixed the offensive line, and adding Conerly early in the draft would give me significantly more confidence going into 2025.
