The Kansas City Chiefs opened the preseason with a 20-17 loss to the Arizona Cardinals. But like most preseason games, the real storylines were what players on the roster bubble would do to earn their spot on the roster.
An invite to Chiefs camp carries more weight than others across the league, considering they’re the modern-day dynasty of the NFL. A standout performance could lead to a job come September, and recent history suggests that could come with the opportunity to win a Super Bowl ring alongside Patrick Mahomes.
For one of Saturday’s standouts, it was a step in the right direction. But an injury may have sabotaged his campaign and left him on the outside looking in when the final roster is decided.
Andy Reid also said Janarius Robinson, who had a sack in Saturday’s game, sustained a foot fracture.

Chiefs EDGE Janarius Robinson Sidelined with Broken Foot
According to Chiefs head coach Andy Reid, Chiefs edge rusher Janarius Robinson suffered a broken toe in Saturday’s game against the Cardinals. While Reid didn’t disclose the severity of the injury, it comes at an impactful time as Robinson made his presence felt against Arizona.
Robinson was the Chiefs’ highest-graded defensive player in Saturday’s game with an 84.4 overall grade according to Pro Football Focus. He also logged a sack in his eight snaps and was credited with a stop in the running game as he looked to crack the Kansas City roster.
A fourth-round pick by the Minnesota Vikings in the 2021 draft, Robinson has battled injuries throughout his career. He tore his ACL during his rookie season and suffered a season-ending ankle injury with the Philadelphia Eagles in 2022 before spending the 2023 and 2024 seasons on the Las Vegas Raiders’ practice squad.
The Chiefs signed Robinson as a free agent last April, but he hadn’t made a lot of noise in the offseason program or during training camp. Saturday’s game was a step in the right direction and something the 26-year-old could build on going forward. But after his latest injury, he may have cost himself a roster spot and will have to look for another opportunity once he recovers.
