The Kansas City Chiefs will be looking to upgrade their offensive line this offseason after their performance in Super Bowl 59. The Chiefs’ offensive line did not give superstar quarterback Patrick Mahomes any time in the pocket as he was sacked six times.

The last time Mahomes was sacked at least five or more times in a game was in Week 12 against the Carolina Panthers. The Chiefs’ offensive line was one of the more pressing concerns throughout the season and it hurt them in the biggest spot.

Heading into the offseason, Veteran offensive lineman D.J. Humphries wants to be part of the solution in 2025. On Tuesday, Nate Taylor of The Athletic said on 96.5 The Fan that Humphries wants the opportunity to get through a full offseason and training camp to become KC’s starting left tackle.

The Chiefs signed the 31-year-old Humphries in late November after being medically cleared from a torn ACL he suffered in the 2023 season. The veteran offensive lineman made his KC debut in Week 14 against the Los Angeles Chargers.

However, Humphries missed the Chiefs’ next three games because of a hamstring injury. In his absence, the Chiefs moved left guard Joe Thuney to left tackle and put backup Mike Caliendo in the starting spot.

Humphries saw the field again, starting in the regular season finale against the Denver Broncos. Even though the veteran tackle got the start in Week 18 and was healthy, the Chiefs went back to Thuney.

Thuney started in Kansas City’s three playoff games, including the Super Bowl where he did not play his best game (60.7 pass block grade per PFF, third-worst on the team).

After the offensive line’s performance in the Super Bowl, Kansas City would love to re-sign Humphries in free agency and have him starting at left tackle next season.
