Chief Who Was Just Released Posts Heartfelt Message on Social Media
By Cem Yolbulan
The Kansas City Chiefs are getting ready for the final three games of the season as they chase the first-round bye. Despite coming off an impressive 14-point win over the Browns on Sunday, the Chiefs are more worried about Patrick Mahomes and his ankle than anything else.
At the same time, they are teasing a potential return for Hollywood Brown, whose practice window they opened last week. To activate the talented wide receiver, however, they had to create a roster spot. Unfortunately, that meant that Clyde Edwards-Helaire had to be waived on Monday.
Edwards-Helaire took to social media about his release. The former first-round pick and two-time Super Bowl champ couldn't hide his appreciation for the city and the fanbase. He thanked KC for making "a Kid from Baton Rouge's dreams come true" and the Chiefs Kingdom for the love and the support he received.
Clyde Edwards-Helaire Posts Emotional Message for Chiefs Fans
Edwards-Helaire experienced a lot of highs and lows throughout his career. He has been dealing with PTSD since a December 2018 incident and has been open about his struggles, especially since the shooting at the Chiefs' Super Bowl LVIII parade. He has been on the NFL's Non-football illness to start this season. Despite being activated on October 15, Edwards-Helaire has yet to make his season debut.
In Edwards-Helaire's absence and Isiah Pacheco's injury, the Chiefs signed Kareem Hunt to the running back rotation. They had also signed Samaje Perine right before the season to be a pass-down specialist. With rookie Carson Steele still around, the Chiefs were bound to make a move in the RB room. As the fifth running back on the roster, Edwards-Helaire was let go.
There is a chance the 25-year-old rusher could be signed to the practice squad but his message reads more like a proper goodbye than a "see you later". Edwards-Helaire would need to clear waivers to sign with the Chiefs again. How much interest the talented LSU standout will have on the waiver wire remains to be seen but Chiefs fans are united in wishing CEH the best for the rest of his career.
