Last Sunday, Patrick Mahomes suffered a high-ankle sprain in the fourth quarter against the Cleveland Browns. Since then, reports have surfaced that Mahomes is considered week-to-week and might miss Saturday's game against the Houston Texans.

In the event that the Chiefs decide to rest Mahomes, veteran quarterback Carson Wentz will take over. On Tuesday, reporters asked Wentz about the possibility of starting on Saturday. Wentz responded that his preparation would remain unchanged and added that it felt good to be in the huddle with his teammates last week. "I think it was beneficial to get out there," Wentz said, according to Charles Goldman of A to Z Sports.

Chiefs News: Carson Wentz comments on a potential start with the Chiefs

Wentz's comments aren't exactly the most reassuring. While a player not having to change the way they prepare is typically a good thing, fans certainly don't want to hear that from Wentz.

Since tearing his ACL in 2017, Wentz has not been the same quarterback. Following the Injury, Wentz has only thrown for over 3,500 yards twice and had a few seasons with a bad touchdown-to-interception ratio.

Witnessing Wentz's steady decline in play, it's a bit shocking that he is not taking a slightly different approach to preparation this week. Alas, no matter how Wentz prepares, he better lead the Chiefs to victory if given the chance.

If Wentz fails to lead the Chiefs to victory on Saturday, it will put the Chiefs in a tough spot, giving them only a single-game cushion for the No. 1 seed in the AFC. That likely means less rest for the starters in the final two weeks of the season, which could make a Super Bowl push even more difficult.

Hopefully, Andy Reid's offense will help Wentz look like his former self, and he will help lead the Chiefs to victory on Saturday if Mahomes can't play.
