The Kansas City Chiefs have to be quietly taking notes on a loud offseason from the Denver Broncos. Rival head coach Sean Payton is no stranger to offering headline-grabbing statements, and it seems that his quarterback is picking up on this trait.
Bo Nix made headlines this past week talking about having the league's top-scoring offense and the lofty expectations the franchise has for the unit. It is typical of a rival whose confidence is clearly at an all-time high after winning the AFC West in the 2025 season.
With that said, the confidence of Nix and Payton has to be quietly fueling a Kansas City team that has far more room to talk. Patrick Mahomes has a record of 13-2 against Denver in his career and has a history of dominating games against the hated rival. Kansas City owning the Broncos isn't anything new, and it has spanned the entire tenure of Mahomes.
Denver having such a high level of confidence after one outlier of a rough season from the Chiefs isn't terribly surprising. Rather than worrying about having the league's best offense, Nix and Payton should be far more concerned about the upcoming revenge tour that Kansas City is clearly setting itself up for.

Nix is clearly the third-best quarterback in his own division, as Patrick Mahomes has a laundry list of accomplishments, and Justin Herbert of the Los Angeles Chargers remains unproven in the playoffs but has immense talent. It remains to be seen if Nix is even a long-term franchise option or if the Broncos view him as such.
Still, it is yet another example of teams being willing to give in to a level of confidence that is going to set up the Chiefs to hand the league a reminder of who has ruled the AFC for much of the past decade. One rough season, and Nix is willing to focus on a larger goal rather than holding on for dear life in a division Kansas City is getting ready to reclaim.
No question, the Chiefs have no shortage of quotes and doubts to fuel what should be a huge 2026 campaign. Lots of questions will be answered when the Chiefs host the Broncos on Sep. 14 for a Week 1 Monday night showdown in Arrowhead Stadium.
