Blockbuster Chiefs WR Trade Reportedly on the Goal Line
By Joe Summers
The Chiefs just might strike gold with a blockbuster wide receiver trade after all. Superstar Rams WR Cooper Kupp could be available and one recent report suggests Kansas City could be his landing spot.
Los Angeles is 2-4 with many injuries on both sides of the ball. Kupp is nearing the end of his phenomenal career and if the Rams believe it's time to start a rebuild, this is an ideal moment to part ways with the former Super Bowl MVP.
According to Diana Russini of The Athletic, Los Angeles is willing to trade Kupp and Kansas City might be the ones to swoop him up.
Chiefs Rumored to Trade for Rams WR Cooper Kupp
"If the Rams are willing to take on the salary I've heard they're willing to do, they are definitely open to trading Cooper Kupp," Russini said. She pointed out that the Chiefs' salary cap situation could cause problems, but this wouldn't be the first time Brett Veach got creative with financials.
Russini later reported that Los Angeles wants a second-round draft pick for the superstar wideout. Since Kansas City has two third-rounders thanks to the L'Jarius Sneed trade, it wouldn't sting to send a second if it means improving the team's biggest weakness.
During his illustrious career, Kupp has 585 catches for 7,213 yards and 52 TDs. He finished third in MVP voting in 2021 with 1,947 yards and there's no question that he'd immediately become the organization's best receiver.
Losing a second-round pick would hurt. However, acquiring Kupp would make the NFL's best team even stronger, fixing a clear problem in the best way possible. For a team trying to win a third straight Super Bowl, these are the moves you have to make.
