The first game of the NFL regular season hasn't even been played, and the Buffalo Bills are already hating on the Kansas City Chiefs.

This is perhaps the best rivalry in the league, and we've seen the Bills beat up on the Chiefs in the regular season just for Patrick Mahomes to go 4-0 against Buffalo in the playoffs. That said, Josh Allen is fully capable of toppling Kansas City at any moment, and head coach Sean McDermott sounds like he's making a declaration.

His latest comments are a direct shot at the Chiefs, and indicates how much fear Mahomes strikes in McDermott's heart.

Bills HC Sean McDermott Hating on Chiefs with Comments Just Before Week 1

Speaking to the media on Tuesday, McDermott made a passionate plea about trying to change the narrative regarding the Bills' four consecutive Super Bowl losses from 1990-1993.

“It pisses me off. People don’t know this town," McDermott said. "They don’t know how hard it is to get to four straight Super Bowls. It’ll never happen again."

On one hand, it's fair that McDermott wants to credit his organization and lift up his fans with a new stadium on the way. On the other, Kansas City needs just one more Super Bowl appearance to prove his claim false. The Chiefs have made three straight and never lost to the Bills in the playoffs, so how can he so confidently state that Mahomes can't do it? At this point, there's little evidence to suggest he won't.

The two worst seasons of Mahomes' career finished with overtime losses in the AFC Championship. It's fair to assume that Kansas City will be in the final four once again and at that point, it's virtually a coin flip. For McDermott to say that it'll never happen again discounts the dynasty that the Chiefs have built, and it's a truly foolish comment when you consider that Mahomes dominates almost everyone in the postseason.

In order for McDermott's clip to not become a meme, his team has to beat Kansas City. Victories in the regular season clearly don't matter between these squads, only January ones do. Jalen Hurts, Tom Brady, and Joe Burrow are the only quarterbacks to topple Mahomes when it counts. Allen has certainly played well enough to win those key games, but McDermott's defense has let the team down.

That's what puts so much pressure on McDermott this season. He's a defensive mind and hasn't performed well when it counts. His quarterback has, and McDermott's comments just bring more pressure onto himself unnecessarily. It's fair to support your city, but this is a foolish clip and could ultimately lead to his exit should he fall short once again.

No matter what, it's obvious that McDermott expects to make the Super Bowl and doesn't think the Chiefs conceivably can. That's obviously false, but the hot seat is getting scorching under a coach who has continually underperformed. These teams will square off in the regular season, though everyone knows that only one game ultimately matters.
