The Kansas City Chiefs were given an exciting update on Xavier Worthy on Friday, as the talented playmaker logged another practice appearance. The second-year wide receiver was even seen making a one-handed catch on the same side as his injured shoulder, sparking optimism across Chiefs Kingdom.
With this in mind, fans are holding out hope that perhaps Worthy is going to be able to return to the lineup against the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 2. Something that ESPN's Nate Taylor reported that head coach Andy Reid refused to rule out when asked about the situation, offering the following:
"“He did a little bit of team work (Friday), but that was it. He’s doing very well.”"Andy Reid
While Reid is refusing to rule out the star receiver, ESPN's Adam Schefter reported that Worthy is going to be listed as doubtful heading into Sunday. Still, fans can view it as a win that the pass-catcher is even being considered as a remote possibility to play in the Super Bowl rematch. It shows that Worthy's recovery is going far better than expected, with a Week 3 return being the next possible return date.

When Worthy first suffered the injury, there was a level of fear that it could be season-ending or keep the star on the shelf for an extended period. Whether or not Worthy can return in Week 2 is up in the air, but the recent developments serve as exciting news. The speedster appears to be on pace to return in time to help the Chiefs survive without Rashee Rice.
Worthy's situation has been the biggest concern with both Rice and Jalen Royals on the shelf and yet to make their 2025 debuts. For Rice, there is at least the excitement that he is getting extra rest while being suspended and will be able to come in and have an instant impact in the most important stretch of the season.
Chiefs fans should be excited by Friday's news, even with Worthy doubtful to play in Week 2. It will simply make Kansas City's potential upset all the more enjoyable and give the receiver an extra week to heal before returning to being the team's primary option at the position.
This isn't to undermine the need for Worthy against the Eagles, but rather to point out the importance of being cautious and not pushing for the receiver to return to the lineup too quickly. The doubtful tag seemingly indicates the Chiefs are in this line of thinking and will be extremely cautious rushing the star back.
