The Kansas City Chiefs' 2025 season got off to an incredibly frustrating start, not only because of the loss but also due to the cost of the game. Xavier Worthy and Travis Kelce appeared to be running crossing routes, but were too close to one another, causing a collision that left Worthy down on the field. When the receiver was able to get up and walk off under his own power, it was obvious that his right arm was hanging, and he appeared to be in great discomfort.

It didn't take long for Worthy to be ruled out of the game completely with a right shoulder injury. Speculation was that the shoulder had come out of socket, and this would be a long-term issue. However, there has been zero confirmation of this, and Andy Reid's postgame presser shed very little light on the situation.

Andy Reid Offers Little Insight on Worthy's Future in Quiet Postgame Presser

Reid was asked about the injury and simply offered that the Chiefs wouldn't have more answers until Worthy returned home. The receiver will undergo an MRI and further testing that will give the staff a better idea of what timeframe we are looking for a potential return. Reid's focus remaining on future evaluation sends a message that this is being taken seriously and not something that is expected to be quickly shaken off.

Still, fans can hope that the MRI provides surprising results and Worthy is quickly able to return to the lineup. His speed and ability as a primary option are badly needed with Rashee Rice out for the next five games and rookie Jalen Royals remaining a question mark.

In Worthy's absence, it was Hollywood Brown stepping up to deliver, hauling in 10 catches for 99 yards on the night. While the receiver isn't a substitute for the speed of Worthy, it was at least an encouraging sign that Mahomes had someone step up.

As attention shifts to Arrowhead as the Chiefs prepare to host the Eagles, it would be a shock if Worthy is able to take the field. Judging from Reid's tone and the lack of details provided, it seems that fans should be preparing themselves for the pass catcher to miss extended time.

Looking at free agency and remaining options, there isn't a receiver remaining who could give the Chiefs the upside of Worthy or apply the pressure that the Texas product brings by simply stepping onto the field. Fans will be quick to point to Tyreek Hill, who made headlines this past week for not being named one of Miami's captains.

While it is an enticing fit, the Chiefs are unlikely to land the veteran as the Dolphins remain focused on returning to relevance. The coaching staff is very much on the hot seat, and Hill is incredibly important to what the Dolphins are looking to accomplish. Leaving the Chiefs shopping in the bargain aisles of free agency, searching for an answer if Worthy is out as long as it appears.

For Reid, the head coach was understandably protective of the details, but this in itself was revealing. It seems Kansas City isn't likely to see Worthy return to the field anytime soon.
