Andy Reid Makes Surprise Reveal About Key Play in Chiefs' Black Friday Win
The Kansas City Chiefs are 11-1 after 13 weeks of football. On Black Friday against the Las Vegas Raiders, the Chiefs escaped with a 19-17 win. They have now clinched a playoff berth and are fighting to secure the No. 1 seed in the AFC.
While this win was closer than the Chiefs wanted, they'll take it any way they get it. Kansas City has won 14 straight one-score games dating back to last season.
That is a testament to this group being battled tested, and having a stellar coaching staff. Following this nail-biter, head coach Andy Reid discussed a crucial play late in the fourth quarter.
When speaking with team reporters following the victory, Reid said he thought about going for it on fourth and 2 with 2:03 left in the fourth quarter at the Raiders 44-yard line. They ended up punting the ball and forced the Raiders to drive down the field as they attempted to go for the win.
That ultimately ended up being the right decision, as quarterback Aidan O'Connell fumbled the ball after Jackson Powers-Johnson snapped it prematurely at Kansas City's 32-yard line.
If the Chiefs decided to go it and failed to convert the first down, it would have given Las Vegas a short field and could have potentially cost them the game.
While the Raiders were still able to move the ball, gaining 54 yards on the final drive, it didn't matter as the Chiefs came away with the win. Kansas City has won the last two games by a combined five points and will have a couple of extra days of rest to prepare for an AFC West showdown against the Los Angeles Chargers in Week 14 on Sunday Night Football.
