The Chiefs could be on the verge of reuniting with former Kansas City CB Steven Nelson and head coach Andy Reid gave his first public comments on Monday regarding the potential move.
Nelson announced his retirement in June but was effective with the Texans over the last two years. Considering the issues the secondary has had since Jaylen Watson got hurt, it's probable that Nelson would represent an upgrade.
Based on Reid's comments, a reunion sounds more likely than not at this point.
Andy Reid Gives Big Steven Nelson Update After Reported Visit
#Chiefs HC Andy Reid on CB Steven Nelson taking a visit: "He was a good player when he was here. . . He developed into a starting corner in this league and had a nice career. We'll just see how things work out and see where he's at today. He'd be a welcomed addition if it all…

Originally a third-round pick in the 2015 NFL Draft, Nelson played for four years with the organization before moving on. There was significant controversy around his departure, though apparently the team is willing to look past those issues.
After leaving the Chiefs, Nelson played for the Steelers, Eagles, and Texans before announcing his retirement. He's still only 31 years old and started 16 games last season, showcasing he still has juice left in the tank.
Andy Reid says that bringing in CB Steven Nelson for a visit today is about adding depth to the position. Says they will see where he's at after announcing his retirement in June and how it works out today.

In 2023, Nelson surrendered a paltry 73.3 passer rating when targeted in coverage. He notched 63 tackles, 12 deflected passes and four interceptions, developing a reputation as a ballhawk for one of the league's surprise teams.
Joshua Williams suffered an injury during the Chargers game, raising questions about his availability moving forward. Trent McDuffie is still a star but Kansas City has little-to-no depth behind him. Nazeeh Johnson and Chamarri Conner haven't played well when given the opportunity and even Keith Taylor had to take snaps late in the contest.
The Chiefs are focused on winning a third straight Super Bowl. This current group in the secondary represents a major weakness that will be exploited by the elite passing attacks in the playoffs. Based on how good Josh Allen has played this year and Lamar Jackson's talent, Kansas City needs an improvement.
Nelson could be that emergency signing. We don't yet know if he'll join the team but based on the information we have available, it sounds like he's coming back to try to win a ring.
