5. D.J. Humphries, OT
The final player on this list represented one of the Chiefs’ biggest weaknesses this season. Kansas City went into this season with the hopes that Kingsley Suamataia or Wanya Morris would be able to win the left tackle job, but both players combined for 49 quarterback pressures before the Chiefs signed D.J. Humphries out of desperation in November.
Humphries was a Pro Bowl player for the Arizona Cardinals in 2021 and was a five-year starter on the offensive line. But like most players who are available late in the season, Humphries had some flaws, including a hamstring injury and a torn ACL.
The 31-year-old started two games for the Chiefs at left tackle, allowing 11 pressures on 64 pass-blocking snaps – a 17 percent pressure rate. When Humphries went back on the injured list in December, Joe Thuney slid over to left tackle and performed well until he allowed a team-high seven pressures in the Super Bowl.
Part of Thuney’s struggles could have been connected to left guard Mike Caliendo, who posted a 32.0 overall grade in Sunday’s game. But it could have been avoided if Humphries was able to stay on the field.
With Humphries still battling injuries, it’s not worth the risk to try again in 2025 and it could lead to a key target either in the draft or free agency this offseason.
