Carson Wentz, Quarterback
The window to re-sign Carson Wentz is likely closed now that the Chiefs have brought in Gardner Minshew to back up Patrick Mahomes.
Wentz’s NFL career has been a roller coaster ride. Selected second overall in the 2016 NFL Draft, he had an up-and-down tenure in Philadelphia before bouncing around the league in recent years.
His peak came in 2017 when he led the Eagles to an 11-2 record in 13 starts. But just when it looked like he was destined for an MVP season, disaster struck—a late-season injury ended his year, and he was forced to watch as Nick Foles took over and led the team to a Super Bowl victory.
From that point on, Wentz was never quite the same. He struggled to regain his pre-injury form, and after the 2020 season, Philadelphia moved on. Since then, he’s been an NFL nomad, suiting up for four different teams in four years.
With Minshew now in Kansas City, Wentz will be looking for his fifth team in five seasons.
Jody Fortson, Tight End
Is he a tight end? Is he a wide receiver? No—he’s Jody Fortson.
Despite his intriguing athleticism, Fortson has yet to carve out a consistent role in the Chiefs' offense. He played in just three games last season, recording a single catch for five yards.
Still, Kansas City could take another low-risk, low-cost flier on him. At the very least, he would provide depth at the bottom of the tight-end depth chart, with the hope that his raw talent finally translates into production.
