3. Bryan Cook, FS

A second-round pick in the 2022 draft, Cook became a starter at safety for the Chiefs in 2023, playing 12 games before suffering a season-ending ankle injury. While he missed last year’s run to the Super Bowl, he was primed to reprise that role this season but had disappointing results.

Cook appeared in all 17 games during the regular season but had a miserable run through the playoffs. His 31.8 overall PFF grade against Houston in the divisional round and his 31.3 grade against the Bills in the AFC Championship Game were by far the lowest of any defender on the team.

The Chiefs secondary was in disarray for most of the season – particularly after Watson’s injury in October. But the Chiefs were probably expecting more from Cook, who posted a career-low overall grade of 56.4 on 1,056 snaps per PFF.

It leaves Kansas City with some questions on the back end of their defense. Trent McDuffie is a star as the Chiefs top cornerback but they could use some depth options behind him. The safety spots are also a weakness as Cook regressed next to Justin Reid.

This creates another void that the Chiefs need to fill in the offseason and it could leave Cook playing for a starting job or battling with a draft pick for his spot this summer.
