Chris Jones made his season debut against the Jaguars on Sunday and was an obvious dominant force every time he stepped on the field.

The Chiefs held one of the league’s better offenses to just nine points with zero touchdowns, largely thanks to Jones’ efforts on the defensive line.

In fact, Jones proved he’s worth every penny he’s asking for and one stat shows why.

Chris Jones Pass-Rush Win Rate vs. Jaguars

If it felt like Jones was getting in Trevor Lawrence’s face seemingly every time he rushed, it’s because he was.

This is obviously a small sample size, but a 38% pass-rush win rate is an absurd number and is directly correlated to one of the best defensive performances from the Chiefs in recent memory.

Patrick Mahomes said himself that the defense won the game and he’s right. Jones put on a tour de force despite missing all of training camp and the preseason, making huge plays in key moments and raising the ceiling for other defenders as well.

It’s no coincidence George Karlaftis put up 1.5 sacks as well in this game. Jones’ presence makes things easier for everyone else, and Chiefs fans should be salivating at what this defense could be for the rest of the season.

Which makes it all the more important that Jones remains with the organization beyond this season. Kansas City has a real opportunity to field a top-10 defense for years to come with the recent influx of young talent, though it’s hard to imagine that possibility without resigning Jones.

If Jones keeps up this level of production for the rest of the season, he’ll force the Chiefs’ hand. Here’s hoping he does.
