Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs have restructured his contract, giving him the most guaranteed money in NFL history in a four-year stretch.

This comes after much public debate about whether Mahomes was underpaid, and his contract for those four years now becomes fully guaranteed.

Schefter also notes that Mahomes and the Chiefs will revisit the contract after 2026, during which time Mahomes will presumably once again become the NFL’s highest-paid player.

A two-time Super Bowl and NFL MVP, the newly-turned 28-year-old is unanimously considered the league’s best player and worthy of being paid like it.

It’s no coincidence this reworked deal comes after the Chiefs failed to come to a contract extension with Chris Jones, and I wonder what long-term impact these new numbers will have on Kansas City’s negotiation with its star defensive tackle.

We’ll see what comes from the contract moving forward, but for now Mahomes and Chiefs fans alike can rejoice that the best player on the planet will remain in red and white happily for years to come.
