It seemed like everything that could go wrong for the Chiefs in Week 1 did. Travis Kelce was hurt and Chris Jones was absent while the pass-catchers seemed to have stones for hands.

Despite a disastrous performance overall, Kansas City was still in a position to win the game late. We should see improvement this week with Jones back in the fold and potentially Kelce, but we still need some disappointing players from last week to step up.

With that in mind, here are three players on thin ice after poor outings last week.

Three Chiefs on Thin Ice after Week 1

1. Skyy Moore

The second-year receiver didn’t catch any of his three targets. He ran over 30 routes but looked out of sync and had multiple crucial drops.

None were more damaging than his drop on 4th-and-25 after Patrick Mahomes made a spectacular pass. Those are the kinds of plays we’ve seen propel the Chiefs to victory in the past, like when Mahomes hit Tyreek Hill down the field against Baltimore several years ago.

For this iteration of the Chiefs to reach the Super Bowl, Moore has to be better moving forward than he was in Week 1. He was on the field for most of the offensive plays, so the team has big plans for him, but he needs to be more dependable when his number is called.

The most concerning part of Moore’s Week 1 was that he drew only three targets. Kadarius Toney, on the field less than half as much as Skyy, drew a whopping five targets to Moore’s three. If the second-round pick the Chiefs invested in Moore is going to be worth it, he has to command a higher target share.

I’ll be watching Moore closely against the Jaguars to see if Kansas City goes his way more frequently.
