Last night was a disaster. That was not how Chiefs Kingdom expected to celebrate hanging a banner and now the team gets 10 days to stew on the dreadful performance.

There is plenty, and I mean plenty, of blame to go around in a meltdown like that. Three people in particular deserve the bulk of it though.

Let’s take a look at the three people most responsible for Kansas City’s sorrows today.

3 People to Blame for Chiefs’ Embarrassing Loss

1. Kadarius Toney

Toney ran only 11 routes but did an incredible amount of damage in that time, dropping three easy passes that stymied drives and directly led to Detroit points. In one case, Toney saw a perfect pass go directly through his hands into Brian Branch’s, who returned it for a pick-six.

It was, without exaggeration, the worst performance I’ve ever seen from a wide receiver.

I’ll cut Toney some slack after he missed the entire preseason and training camp with injury, but those kinds of mistakes cannot happen concurrently again ever.

Toney is an electric player who brings a dynamism others don’t, as we saw in his Super Bowl-record punt return. He’s still a big part of the Chiefs’ plans moving forward and I hope he quickly gets an opportunity to put this behind him.

I’m curious to see how he bounces back. The next 10 days will say a lot about Toney’s perseverance, but as of now, he’s likely one of the least popular people in town.
