2. Drafting Prowess

The Chiefs famously had more rookie snaps last season on defense than any other team, a testament to Veach’s great drafting of late.

His first draft class was a dud, but Veach learned from his mistakes and is now one of the most shrewd drafters in the league.

Last year’s class alone included Trent McDuffie, George Karlaftis, Skyy Moore, Bryan Cook, Leo Chenal, Joshua Williams, Jaylen Watson, and Isaiah Pacheco. All of those players were key contributors to the Super Bowl run, with Moore and Pacheco even both scoring touchdowns in the game.

Nick Bolton, Creed Humphrey and Trey Smith are all among the best at their respective positions from the class prior, while Willie Gay Jr. and L’Jarius Sneed are also feathers in Veach’s cap.

The jury is still out on the most recent draft, but early signs are promising. With Veach becoming such a great talent evaluator, Kansas City’s future is as bright as its recent past.
