The KC Current (5-9-0) pulled off perhaps the best win of their season last week, defeating No. 1 Portland 1-0 behind stellar defensive play and a penalty goal from Michelle Cooper.

They hope for a second straight upset victory tonight, taking on Racing Louisville (3-4-7) for the third time this year after dropping the first two contests.

This is a critical matchup once again for the Current’s playoff hopes, as Louisville sits just one point ahead of KC in the standings. No team in NWSL has finished in a draw more often than Louisville and the Current are rolling, with three wins in their last four matches.

I like the Current’s chances to stay hot tonight. Let’s look at the odds before I explain why.

KC Current vs. Racing Louisville Prediction and Pick

The Current are catching Louisville at the right time. Despite having two wins over KC already this year, Louisville has just one win in its last six NWSL competitions. On the other hand, KC has two straight victories in a late-season playoff push.

Across all competitions, the Current have four wins in their last six contests. Cassie Miller has been fantastic in net, notching nine saves against Portland last week while snapping the Thorns’ streak of 18 straight games with at least one goal.

KC utilized a “bend, don’t break” defensive strategy to beat the Thorns, allowing 26 shots but just nine on goal. The Current would be wise to employ a similar approach while quickly pushing the ball from the defensive third.

Debinha has four goals and an assist in the club’s last five matches, while Michelle Cooper consistently puts pressure on defenses as well. That duo, paired with Miller, can deliver KC another victory. With Elizabeth Bell and Morgan Gautrat back in the fold from injury, the Current finally resembles the fiery squad fans hoped they would at the beginning of the year.

These teams are far more evenly matched than the odds would suggest. A draw may be the most likely scenario, but I’ll roll with the hot feet and back the Current to bring home another upset win.

Pick: KC Current (+280)
