Can Mizzou Wrestling make noise at the Big XII Tournament?
Josh Edmond (13 – 7): Freshman
Weight Class: 149 lbs. – Bids: 4 – At-Large: 4 – Pre-Seed: 4th
Edmond makes his way to Tulsa, Oklahoma with an 8-3 conference record. All three of Edmonds conference losses during the current season belong to the three seeded wrestlers above him; 1st seed Kaden Gfeller (OSU), 2nd seed Willie McDougald (OU), and 3rd seed Jarrett Degen (ISU). While Gfeller knocked him off by fall, Edmond has wrestled the others to one and two point matches. Edmond has little room for error with only four bids at his weight class and will be plenty motivated looking for the first NCAA appearance of his career.
Jarrett Jacques (15 – 10): Junior
Weight Class: 157 lbs. – Bids: 6 – At-Large: 5 – Pre-Seed: 4th
Jarrett Jacques currently holds a 9-5 conference record and has faced all wrestlers in his bracket except for one (Alex Hornfeck, WVU). His five conference losses came from 1st seed David Carr (ISU), 2nd seed Jared Franek (NDSU) twice, 3rd seed Wyatt Sheets OSU, and 6th seed Justin Thomas (OU). Jacques, a three time NCAA qualifier, will look to make it number four coming out of the Big XII Championship.
Keegan O’Toole (17 – 0): Freshman
Weight Class: 165 lbs. – Bids: 4 – At-large: 4 – Pre-Seed: 1st
Keegan O’Toole has had one close conference match all season. 4th seeded Travis Wittlake (OSU) has been the only wrestler to come close to O’Toole wrestling him to a one point match. The rest of his opponents have lost to him by a major decision or worse. O’Toole should find an easy route to the NCAAs and continue on his undefeated route.
Peyton Mocco (12 – 4): Sophomore
Weight Class: 174 lbs. – Bids: 8 – At-Large: 4 – Pre-Seed: 6th
With a 4-2 conference record, Mocco has matched up with three opponents inside his bracket on the season going into the Big XII Championship. He has faced off against 2nd seed Cade DeVos (SDSU), 7th seed Joel Devine (ISU), and 8th seed Austin Brenner (NDSU) going 2-1 in those three matches, his one loss was a one point decision to DeVos. Moccos teammate, Sean Harman, faced off against the current 1st seeded Dustin Plott (OSU) in a recent dual and was victorious in a thrilling one point decision.
