Continue to Utilize the Running Game

In 2020 the Kansas City Chiefs used their 1st round pick No. 32 on running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire out of LSU.  Since entering the league he has rushed 246 times for 1107 yards.  One glaring stat is he has only 4 rushing touchdowns.

Edwards-Helaire was drafted as a dual-threat back.  He has 64 targets catching 44 for 358 yards averaging 8.1 yards per reception.  He has caught 3 total touchdowns.  There have been questions about his ability to stay healthy.

Edwards-Helaire has had a stretch of injuries that included a groin, ankles, and a knee.  All of which are very important to a running back’s ability.  He is currently on the injured reserve with a knee issue.

Darrel Williams assumed the starting role.  So far in 2021, he has rushed 52 times for 181 yards and 4 touchdowns.   One area for improvement is his 3.5 yards per attempt.

According to ESPN the Kansas City Chiefs are ranked 10th in rushing yards with 934, and 14th in rushing yards per game with 116.8.  The front office addressed a need at the offensive line in the offseason and it has been on full display in the run game.
