Will this be a flashy or close game? Probably not. Should Big 12 fans still watch? Yes.

After all, this is the Big 12 conference-opening game, an important mark in the 2021 season.  A stronger matchup, such as Oklahoma vs. Iowa State or Texas vs. Kansas State, would have more fan hype about it, but the Baylor Bears and Kansas Jayhawks have the honor this year.

Coming off a 66-7 steamrolling of Texas Southern, the Bears open as two-score favorites over the Jayhawks. Kansas, while 1-1, are coming off a 49-22 loss to Coastal Carolina and a three-point win over South Dakota. Hardly the strongest resume ranks them 114th in the country, according to ESPN’s FPI. Arguabl the worst Power 5 football program in the country, any victory is cause for celebration.

On the flip side, Baylor is ranked 41st according to ESPN’s FPI, landing them 5th in the Big 12. Led by quarterback Gerry Bohanon and running back Trestan Ebner, Baylor is returning to their dominant offensive ways. Currently ranked ninth nationally with 553 yards per game and 47.5 points per game, the Jayhawk defense will certainly have their hands full. Kansas has already faced Coastal Carolina, another top offensive unit, and the Jayhawks could not keep up with the pace.

This will be a fun game to watch, as Baylor may rout Kansas, but that will make the Jayhawks play looser. Kansas head coach Lance Leipold will have to coach his best game yet for Kansas to have chance in this matchup.

But hey, at least they beat South Dakota.
