The wait is finally over and college football is here. While the conference has been in the headlines, Big 12 football fans can now focus on gridiron action.

Sept. 4 marks the beginning of the football season for most Big 12 teams, even if most games are glorified scrimmages. Kansas State vs. Stanford and West Virginia vs. Maryland are two of eight Power 5 matchups to start the season off.

Down in Austin, the Texas Longhorns have the test of facing Louisiana this weekend as well, an underrated matchup to watch.

The Big 12 enters Week 1 with three teams in the AP Top 25, with Oklahoma, Iowa State, and Texas representing the conference. Oklahoma and Iowa State enter the season as contenders to win the conference and possibly make the college football playoff.

Both teams have relatively weak opponents, as Tulane is ranked 61st, according to ESPN’s Football Power Index, and Northern Iowa finished 3-4 in the FCS Missouri Valley Football Conference.

While most of the Week 1 matchups are one-sided, there are three that stand out. The week 1 results set the tone and expectations for many teams and no team should be overlooked. Which games should Big 12 and college football fans monitor this Saturday?
