No. 6: South Carolina Gamecocks

Vanderbilt isn’t the only team in the SEC that’s breaking in a brand new head coach. The South Carolina Gamecocks are welcoming Shane Beamer, son of legendary Virginia Tech head coach Frank Beamer, as their new head coach after choosing to move on from Will Muschamp.

But the younger Beamer has never been a head coach before and he might find that South Carolina can be a tough place to win. The SEC East has some incredibly talented teams in its upper echelon and the Gamecocks are fighting to move up and gain relevance among their contemporaries.

There are some questions with South Carolina’s starting roster that Beamer and company will need to get answered sooner rather than later if they want to succeed this season. Quarterback is still a bit of a question mark.

But, while there could be some growing pains for the Gamecocks this season (which should be expected anywhere a new coach steps in), there is hope for the future in Columbia.

Aside from being the son of a head coaching legend, Beamer has been brushing up on what it takes to win at a high level in the college ranks thanks to his time at Oklahoma and Georgia. While he was with the Sooners, Beamer got to work closely with Lincoln Riley and there are certainly worse coaches out there that someone could work with.
