Will Scott Frost and the Nebraska football team be able to get a season opening win over Illinois?

The Nebraska football team could use a solid season. And if Scott Frost is going to stick around as the Huskers’ head coach, he’s going to need to get some wins sooner rather than later.

There’s no better time to start winning than with a season opener, right?

Well, it seems like the oddsmakers believe Frost and the Cornhuskers will be able to open up the 2021 season with a road win.

Last year, the Huskers fell short against the Fighting Illini.

Nebraska was embarrassed at home in Lincoln, dropping its game by a score of 41-23 against Illinois in Memorial Stadium. But while the Huskers certainly struggled last season, they’re opening up as a road favorite over Illinois this season.

Nebraska football: Huskers open as favorites over Illinois Fighting Illini

According to WynnBET, the Nebraska football team is currently a seven point favorite over the Fighting Illini. Nebraska is favored over Illinois despite the fact that this game is happening in Urbana-Champaign.

At the time of writing this, the over/under is set for 55.5 points, according to the folks over at WynnBET.

Even though Nebraska lost to Illinois in frustrating fashion a season ago, one interesting thing to note here is that the Huskers kept their head coach while Illinois moved on from Lovie Smith. Illinois then chose to hire former Arkansas and Wisconsin coach Bret Bielema.

Bielema, who was most recently coaching around as an assistant in the NFL, returned to the college ranks to take the Illinois job. It’ll be intriguing to keep an eye on how the Fighting Illini develop while they’re under his leadership.

This is a game that Nebraska should win and this is a series that the Huskers control, for the most part. The two teams have faced each other a total of 18 times and Nebraska has won 13 of those contests, including the four meetings prior to the 2020 game.
