Kansas State football: Ranking the 5 easiest games on the 2021 schedule
By Nathan Brown
No. 5: Kansas State football vs. Stanford Cardinal
2020 Record: 4-2
The Stanford Cardinal only played in-conference games last season due to covid. This season however, the Cardinal are traveling to Arlington, Texas to play the Wildcats at AT&T Stadium, home of the Dallas Cowboys.
This game will be played Labor Day Weekend airing on FS1 and is featured as the Allstate Kickoff. Historically, K-State has only played Stanford once, back in 2016, and the Cardinal won at home 26-13.
During the 2020 season, Stanford ranked 11th out of 12 teams for their run defense in the Pac-12 allowing 222 yards per game. Based on that statistic, the lights of AT&T Stadium should be shining on Deuce Vaughn.
Vaughn had a stellar freshman season with 1,076 all-purpose yards and is looking to continue his individual development this season. Whether it is a true running play, check down, or screen pass Vaughn needs to be involved early and often against a porous run defense. Stanford did improve from their 2019 record of 4-8 to finishing 4-2 last season.
All of Stanford’s games this year are against power five opponents and having to play K-State at the start of the season is not an easy way for the Cardinal to start 2021.
Big 12 media days were hosted in Arlington and this time when Skylar Thompson makes the trip again Labor Day Weekend it’s all business.
Kickoff is at 11am in Arlington and purple will be filling the stadium. Klieman and his team should be able to count on Wildcat fans making the trip down south in hopes of starting the 2021 season with a win.
