No. 5: Kansas State football vs. West Virginia Mountaineers

The West Virginia Mountaineers could provide a pretty interesting test for the Kansas State football team this season. Luckily for the Wildcats, this game will be in Manhattan, Kansas instead of Morgantown, West Virginia, which can be a tough place to play given West Virginia’s intense fanbase.

Last season’s meeting between the two teams in Morgantown, a 37-10 loss for the Kansas State Wildcats, is a pretty good indication of how tough it can be to beat the Mountaineers in their home stadium.

West Virginia went 6-4 last season. While the Mountaineers didn’t look great all year, they did get a nice 24-21 win over Army in the Liberty Bowl.

This season should be an interesting one for the Mountaineers. After losing several players to the transfer portal since a year ago this time, West Virginia is headed into its third season with Neal Brown as its head coach and has to be hoping that things take off this year.

The Mountaineers have improved steadily so far, going from 5-7 during Brown’s first season in Morgantown to 6-4 last season.

That’s not a huge, drastic amount of improvement, but it is a sign of some. And so, it stands to reason that West Virginia will see some level of improvement again this season, which could make things difficult for teams like Kansas State, who is also hoping to improve moving forward.
