The Kansas City Chiefs really need to do what they can to get Tyrann Mathieu on a new contract as soon as possible.

Landing Tyrann Mathieu continues to be a huge move for the Kansas City Chiefs. That signing has paid off time and time again as the Chiefs were able to get one of the best defensive backs in the NFL at the time.

And as it turns out, Mathieu continues to be one of the best defensive backs in the NFL. He’s a dominant defender and a great leader who has helped solidify the Chiefs’ defense over the past couple of seasons. His presence on this team makes a considerable difference and that should be noticed.

It seems like the folks over at EA Sports are definitely paying attention. Heading into the 2021 season, Madden 22 has ranked Mathieu as the best safety in the NFL.

Here’s how Madden 22’s top five safeties (including free safeties and strong safeties) are ranked:

  1. Tyrann Mathieu – 95 overall
  2. Budda Baker – 93 overall
  3. Devin McCourty – 92 overall
  4. Jess Bates III – 91 overall
  5. Justin Simmons – 91 overall

Tyrann Mathieu should continue to be a star for the Kansas City Chiefs for as long as he’s with them

When looking at all defensive backs in the NFL, Mathieu continues to rank high. Though he’s not the top overall ranked defensive back in Madden heading into the 2021 season, he’s still in the top five, ranking at 4th behind Jalen Ramsey, Stephon Gilmore, and Jaire Alexander respectively.

Mathieu has only been in Kansas City for a couple of years now, but he’s been huge for the Kansas City Chiefs over the past couple of seasons.

So far, he’s started in 31 regular season games for the Chiefs, snagging 10 interceptions along the way, including one which was returned for a touchdown. Along the way, Mathieu has racked up a total of 137 combined tackles in the regular season.

In the playoffs, Mathieu has a total of six starts for the Chiefs and has accumulated 34 total combined tackles in the process.
