Sporting Kansas City: Significant matchup against Seattle Sounders FC

Sporting Kansas City will be taking the field on Sunday July 25th, 2021 against the Seattle Sounders FC.  

This is such a significant matchup within the Western Conference because Seattle is currently in 1st place with Kansas City in 2nd place.

The two teams are separated by 5 points with this match being the first of three in which Kansas City, and Seattle will square off.  The Sounders have been playing very good soccer only losing one matchup thus far, and being undefeated at home.

There are several major tidbits going into this matchup, one being reported on Friday that the Head Coach of Sporting Kansas City, Peter Vermes along with two unnamed players have acquired COVID-19 and will miss the match.

According to Shaun Goodwin of the Kansas City Star:

"“Vermes said on Friday that despite being vaccinated, he tested positive for COVID-19. He said he does not know how or where he contracted the coronavirus.  He would not disclose information about the two players ruled out, but said he and both players have minimal symptoms and are in good condition.”"

Sporting Kansas City: The match will take place at 8 p.m. CST in Seattle, Washington on Lumen Field.

Another significant piece of information is with the Gold Cup currently going on Sporting Kansas City with be without two major key contributors in Gianluca Busio, and Alan Pulido.  There are plenty of options to fill those holes while Pulido is playing for Mexico and Busio is playing for team U.S.A.
