Right Guard

Kyle Long, Laurent Duvernay-Tardif

Transitioning over to the right side of the line, I believe Kyle Long will win the job at right guard over the doctor, Laurent Duvernay-Tardif. While both are interesting cases given we have no idea what kind of football shape either are in because they both took 2020 off, we do know that Kyle Long was the better player at his peak.

Laurent Duvernay-Tardif is still a good player, but he did struggle since breaking his leg in the 2018 season and he was never a Pro-Bowler like Long was.

Even if Kyle Long never gets back to 100% of what he was in Chicago, 80-85% of prime Kyle Long is still a better player than Laurent Duvernay-Tardif.

Another concern with Long, however, is that he has struggled to stay healthy throughout his NFL career and banking on him to stay healthy now is just having blind faith. Despite that, taking a year off the game like Long did may help him in lasting a full season. That being said, it’s possible Long and LDT share somewhat of a co-starter role. You really can’t go wrong with either one but Long is certainly the better player when fully healthy.
