Round 4: Pick 144 – Patrick Jones II, EDGE (Pittsburgh)

The Chiefs add another defensive player in the fourth round, making Patrick Jones II their third pick in this seven-round mock draft. The biggest thing that stands out about Jones is what a smothering pass-rusher he was at Pitt. The 6’4″, 265-pound EDGE rusher had nine sacks in 2020, and that narrowly beat out the 8.5 sacks he had as a junior in 2019.

The Chiefs need pass-rushing help desperately and Jones brings that to the table. There’s a lot of versatility here with Jones too, as The Draft Network noted he could be a defensive lineman while NFL.com had him slotted in as an outside linebacker.

That’s not the only thing those two sites disagreed on either, as NFL.com made it a point to mention that Jones would never be an NFL starter, serving as a backup outside linebacker instead, while The Draft Network projected him as a starting defensive lineman.

The Chiefs would obviously know what they’re expecting of Jones if they were to take him but either way, they’d have a versatile pass-rushing threat joining their defense. No one would complain about that.
