First KC Chiefs 7-Round Mock Draft after trading for Orlando Brown
The KC Chiefs traded for Orlando Brown and as a result, don’t have a first-round pick. How might their draft look now that they don’t need to target a tackle early on?
Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you’ve heard that the Kansas City Chiefs surrendered their 2021 first-round pick to the Ravens in exchange for left tackle Orlando Brown. This gives KC the left tackle they desperately need and while they had to give up four total draft picks in order to land him, they became a better team with the addition of Brown.
With the draft kicking off on Thursday, it’s time to really double down on our draft coverage and that means our mock drafts. This is the first mock draft I’ve done since the Chiefs traded for Brown and it definitely opened the door for the team to go in a different direction early on. Let’s take a look at how the board fell in the latest mock draft.
KC Chiefs Mock Draft 7.0
Round 2: Pick 58 – Joseph Ossai, EDGE (Texas)
Now that the Chiefs traded out of the first round, they won’t make their first selection until pick No. 58. There was still plenty of talent on the board at this point and the Chiefs went with Texas EDGE rusher Joseph Ossai, who’d bring an extra layer of toughness to this defense.
Ossai is a monster on the gridiron, totaling 55 tackles (15.5 for loss), 5.5 sacks, three forced fumbles, and two defended passes during the 2020 season. That was through just nine games, proving that Ossai makes the most of his opportunities.
The Chiefs need a linebacker and Ossai would give them a great option. They also have a pretty good track record of drafting linebackers out of Texas (and Texas players in general). Ossai would be an immediate contributor for this defense.
