2021 NFL Draft: KC Kingdom First-Round Mock Draft
The Detroit Lions have traded the seventh pick to the Chicago Bears.
With the seventh pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, the Chicago Bears select…
Bears GM: John
The Bears finally find a team willing to be a trade partner in the Lions, though sacrificing next year’s first is painful. Trey Lance may take time to develop but the roster isn’t half bad and a quarterback on a rookie salary could help fortify the position. Andy Dalton holds the position down until Lance is ready to take over.
Staff Reaction: This pick doesn’t make a lot of sense on either side. The Bears are risking an awful lot for a guy who played in less than 20 games in college and the Lions trading with a division rival could easily backfire on them. That being said, if Lance did go to Chicago, the pressure wouldn’t be on him to play right away, so that’s a positive at least. – Leigh
With the eighth pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, the Carolina Panthers select…
Panthers GM: Kole
The Panthers need to make sure Sam Darnold has the tools to succeed and they give him the best wide receiver in this year’s draft class. Ja’Marr Chase will also rejoin former LSU offensive coordinator Joe Brady, who is the offensive coordinator of the Panthers now.
Yes, there were some other needs that Carolina could have addressed here, but it was hard not to take Chase when he was still available at No. 8. Darnold will be happy.
Staff Reaction: Certainly not what I would have done, as the Panthers desperately have a need at left tackle and all but Sewell on the board. However, Chase isn’t a bad player and could pair nicely with DJ Moore and Robby Anderson for new quarterback Sam Darnold. With questions at both tackle spots long-term, I’d have gone tackle here, but I can understand the Chase pick. – John
