With the third pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, the San Francisco 49ers select…

42. . Quarterback. San Francisco 49ers. Mac Jones. 3. player

49ers GM: Cullen

The 49ers made a big trade to move up to No. 3 to get, presumably, their quarterback of the future as the team can move on easily from Jimmy Garoppolo after this season. But which quarterback will it be between Mac Jones, Justin Fields, and Trey Lance? I go with Jones here not because that’s what I’d do but because I’ve been hearing so much about San Francisco being keyed in on him.

Staff Reaction: I know Cullen said he made this pick because that’s how things have been trending, but I really hope the 49ers don’t draft Jones here. He’s a talented quarterback, but nowhere near being worthy as the No. 3 overall pick. Justin Fields is the better option and that’s hopefully what the Niners will do on draft night. – Leigh

The Atlanta Falcons have traded the fourth pick to the Denver Broncos.

With the fourth pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, the Denver Broncos select…

45. . Quarterback. Denver Broncos. Justin Fields. 4. player

Broncos GM: Cullen

As Denver’s GM, I made a deal with Atlanta, moving up from pick No. 9 to pick No. 4 to grab one of the two best quarterbacks in the draft: Ohio State’s Justin Fields. If he’s off the board at this point, Denver doesn’t make this move, giving up two firsts and a third. But if he is available, expect some team to make the leap.

Fields will compete with former Mizzou quarterback Drew Lock, the Broncos’ starter for the past one-and-a-half seasons. Fields has more upside, and with the Broncos looking to keep up in the AFC West arms race with Kansas City and Los Angeles, he’s worth the trade.

Staff Reaction: The Broncos have not been shy about quarterbacks and are obviously hoping Fields gets past 3. Fields is likely the No. 3 quarterback in this class and may even be the second. It’s a big bet on a quarterback but one that has to be done. Keeping ‘up with the Jones’ the Broncos needed to find a signal-caller. If Fields hits, the Broncos are in a good spot. – John
