With the 19th pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, Washington selects…

Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah. 19. player. 58. . Linebacker. Washington Commanders

Washington GM: Leigh

Washington expressed interest in trading up to get either Mac Jones or Trey Lance, but when a deal didn’t fall the right way, they stayed pat and landed a stud at linebacker instead. Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah would join a Washington defense that was a nightmare to deal with a year ago and his 11 tackles for loss with the Fighting Irish is what grabs the Football Team’s attention here.

The Washington Football Team defense gets stronger with this pick than they would have with a quarterback and can very much contend in an incredibly weak NFC East.

Staff Reaction: WFT lands one of the top two linebackers in the draft with this solid pick. The senior won the Butkus Award in 2020 while leading the Fighting Irish. Physically, compared to other professional linebackers, he’s a little on the small side, but that’s seemed to have helped when it came to coverage. – Cullen

The Detroit Lions traded the seventh pick and are now on the clock at pick 20.

With the 20th pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, the Detroit Lions select…

player. 50. . Linebacker. Detroit Lions. Zaven Collins. 20

Lions GM: John

The Lions achieve the goal, before their first pick, knowing they have three first-round picks in the 2022 NFL Draft, so if Jared Goff doesn’t work out in 2021, they are set up in 2022. Zaven Collins is a big, physical linebacker with some space coverage ability.

The Lions likely look to add defensive help along with pass catchers with their second and three third-round picks on Day 2.

Staff Reaction: After trading back, the Lions miss out on the chance to draft one of the best wide receivers or a top-tier defensive player. They do gain some draft capital in return and land Collins, who’s good, but they really could have used a top-10 talent on their roster. – Kole
