Kansas City Chiefs: Prospects from smaller schools
Zach Davidson, TE, Central Missouri
Zach Davidson’s path to this point is intriguing as he was a walk-on punter (yes, a punter) that developed into a threat as a tight end. Measuring in at 6’6″ and 245 pounds, the UCM product ran a 4.64 forty-yard dash with a 37.5 vertical and 6.95 3 cone drill. All three of those scores are very good, helping measure a prospect’s ability to get off the line, change direction and do so quickly.
For years now, the Chiefs have needed to address the tight end position as Travis Kelce is now on the wrong side of 30 and for the 2021 season, maybe more relied upon more than the Chiefs likely should. While Davidson is not likely a prospect capable of doing a whole lot of contributing this season, he has the physical tools as a late-round/undrafted prospect that could develop into an offensive contributor in the future.
If Davidson is able to put on some weight and develop, the Chiefs could potentially have a future backup tight end for a few years, coming from a local school (UCM is located in Warrensburg, Missouri, which is only an hour away from Kansas City). At the very least, Davidson could be an interesting story to follow for Chiefs fans of the local product hoping to do good.
