KC Chiefs 7-Round Mock Draft: 2 immediate contributors join the Chiefs
KC Chiefs Mock Draft 6.0
Round 7: Pick 207 – Cary Angeline, TE (NC State)
With their final pick in this seven-round mock draft, the Kansas City Chiefs address the backup tight end position. Well, more than likely the third tight end spot, as Cary Angeline wouldn’t be ready to be the TE2 right off the bat.
What’s interesting with the top-tier tight ends in the league is that they’re not typically early-round guys. Travis Kelce was a third-round pick back in 2013 and George Kittle went in the fifth round in 2017. This might mean next to nothing, but it shows me that quality tight ends are still on the board later on in the draft.
Angeline is probably someone the Chiefs could land after the draft concludes, but his ability to play both tight end and slot receiver makes him an appealing option in the seventh round. He wasn’t someone who had tons of receiving yards through his final two years at NC State, totaling 791 yards off of 52 receptions, but he was a favorite in the red zone for sure, scoring 11 touchdowns during that time.
No one is replacing Kelce as the TE1 any time soon, but Angeline has the intangibles to be a decent backup, which is something Kansas City hasn’t had for a while.
That concludes our KC Chiefs’ seven-round mock draft! Passing on a tackle in the first two rounds might not be a decision the fans love, but look what it got the Chiefs — They added two defensive players who can be an absolute force on that side of the ball.
Kansas City still found a potential left tackle of the future in James Hudson, who they’ll groom as a rookie and hope he can transition into the player they’re looking for. They also added depth at defensive line, cornerback, wide receiver, safety, and tight end, which gives them a lot to work with this offseason.
What did you think of this mock draft, Chiefs fans? Would you be okay with seeing the draft play out this way?
