KC Chiefs 7-Round Mock Draft: 2 immediate contributors join the Chiefs
KC Chiefs Mock Draft 6.0
Round 5: Pick 175 – Marlon Williams, WR (UCF)
Yes, I’m well-aware of how confusing it’d be if the Chiefs drafted Marlon Williams and Marvin Wilson (along with Rodarius Williams, giving them yet another Williams on their roster), but it’d be hard to pass on Marlon Williams at this point of the draft.
Williams made the most out of UCF’s shortened season (the Knights played just eight games), grabbing 71 receptions for 1,039 yards and 10 touchdowns. It was by far Williams’ best season and he now enters the draft as a hot commodity, albeit on Day 3.
The Chiefs need to draft a wide receiver but they have the luxury of being able to wait until the later rounds due to how stacked this year’s receiver class is. Williams might not be the WR2 that Kansas City needs (at least not right away), but this sentence from The Draft Network stood out to me,
"Williams may not demand the volume of targets in the NFL that he had in 2020 at UCF, but for a team looking for size and vertical skills down the field—and a player who can also create space for himself after the catch—Williams is a perfect candidate for such a role."
This is exactly what the Chiefs are looking for with their next wide receiver. A huge problem in the Super Bowl loss to the Bucs was that once Tyreek Hill and Travis Kelce were well-guarded (and with the pass-protection being atrocious), no one else was able to make the key grabs that the offense needed. Williams could have made a big difference in that game. He’d be a great fit for this offense, even if he’s not an immediate WR2 option.
