KC Chiefs Mock Draft 6.0

Round 3: Pick 94 – James Hudson, OT (Cincinnati)

. Offensive Tackle. Bearcats . James Hudson. 94. player. 830

The Chiefs pass on drafting an offensive tackle in the first and second rounds but address the need in round three. Ideally, if this is the route they end up taking, it’s because they signed a free agent to be their left tackle in 2021. If that’s what the Chiefs do, taking James Hudson in the third round could be a nice move, as he’d be a developmental left tackle.

Hudson is an interesting prospect because he actually played defensive lineman while in high school and moved to the offensive line in college. He spent time at Michigan before transferring to Cincinnati and really shined bright at left tackle for the Bearcats in 2020.

Hudson is not someone the Chiefs should take if they plan on playing him right away. He still has a lot to work on before he’ll be starting-caliber in the NFL, but if they can sign Alejandro Villanueva to be their left tackle in 2021, Hudson can sit behind him for a year and get a valuable year of experience.

This obviously wouldn’t solve the left tackle issue in 2021, but rebuilding certain positions often takes time.
