Louis Riddick believes Colts are biggest threats to KC Chiefs in AFC

The KC Chiefs rule the AFC, but someone has to challenge them, right? According to Louis Riddick, that’ll be the Indianapolis Colts.
The Kansas City Chiefs have hosted the last three AFC Championship games and represented the conference in the last two Super Bowls. They’re the top of the crop in the AFC right now, but there’s always a team or two that emerges as a potential threat each year (Titans in 2019, Bills in 2020). Who will that be in 2021?
Louis Riddick of ESPN picked a bit of a surprising team as to who he thought would challenge the Chiefs in the conference this year by going with the Indianapolis Colts.
"“I think the Colts are going to provide the greatest challenge to the Kansas City Chiefs in the AFC because they have a lot of things going for them right now as far as culture and personnel in Indianapolis,” he answered. “Now the question is whether or not (Colts coach) Frank Reich and one person in particular, that being Carson Wentz, can be the cherry on top of this great program they’re putting together.”"
He’s not wrong. The Colts do have a promising team and it really all hinges on if Carson Wentz plays well or not. If he’s the 2017 or even the 2018/2019 version that Eagles fans saw, the Colts can be competitive. If he plays like the worst quarterback in the league as he did last year, then Indy won’t have the tools to offset that.

The Colts are the biggest threat to the KC Chiefs in the AFC.
Indianapolis made the playoffs last year despite having an aging Philip Rivers as their quarterback and now they’ll have a signal-caller who was MVP-caliber just a few years ago. Wentz was traded by the Eagles for a reason, but he’s still just 28 years old and really just played poorly last year. Wentz is also injury prone, so that’s something that could deter the Colts as well.
Personally, I’d stick with teams like the Ravens and Bills continuing to be the threats in the AFC, but when it comes to who the top dog is, the Kansas City Chiefs are in a class of their own. Until someone can knock the Chiefs off their throne in the conference, it’ll belong to Kansas City.

Can the Colts be that team in 2021? Or will it be someone like the Ravens, Bills, or even the Browns?
